Wentwood Dewhite Gibson, affectionately called Woody by his family and friends, was born on May 12, 1973, Landrail Point, Crooked Island. Wentwood was the fifth of six children born to Wilfred and Marina Gibson, both of whom are predeceased.
Wentwood received his education at Landrail Point Primary School and Colonel Hill High School. He later went on to College of the Bahamas, now University of the Bahamas, where he obtained a certificate in Auto Mechanic. He was a man of many trades including plumbing, air conditioning installation, and construction. He was a licensed boat captain. Fishing was his most treasured sport. The only thing that kept him out of the waters was extremely bad weather. He enjoyed being on the open seas and would entertain tourists and friends on fishing explorations.
In 2004, he fell in love with a beautiful young lady. They were joined in holy matrimony on January 20, 2008. This union produced three children - Jamari, Grace, and Wendia
Wentwood was a man of high values and standards. He was dedicated to his family and would give his last if needed. His generosity was felt by many. His love and dedication for his wife and children was unmeasurable. He was dearly loved by all who came into contact with him. He was a friendly person, and treated everyone with love and respect. His circle was small and if you managed to get in it, consider yourself fortunate.
He would often express his love for the Lord and would engage in countless Bible discussions. He would often quote the scriptures, “I am the head and not the tail, I am above and not beneath.” Deuteronomy 28:13 and : “No weapon formed against me shall prosper…” Isaiah 54:17.
Almighty God has been faithful to Wentwood over the years and he has experienced His blessings, mercy and love upon his life. The time came when Wentwood, “Woody”, completed his journey on this earth and left time for eternity on December 18, 2023, on the open sea doing what he enjoyed.
Wentwood was predeceased by his parents Wilfred and Marina Gibson.
