VIRGINIA HAZEL FERGUSON, beloved daughter,mother, sister, aunt, niece, and friend was born on the 22nd day of June 1942to Frank Louise Neeley and Neville Neeley in New Providence, Bahamas and wasthe youngest of her parents two children.
She was christened and baptized at BethelChurch where she frequented as a child. Religion was central to her upbringingand attending church was a mandatory part of her and her sister’s lives.
Virginia and her sister were raised by theirgrandmother after the death of their mother. Virginia was only 4 years old atthe time of their mother’s passing and her sister Ruby was 9. The sistersformed a bond that constituted its own little world and it continuedthroughout their lives.
Virginia’s early education was obtained atBaptist Day School and Southern Senior High. In 1960, she became the mother of a bouncingbaby boy, Winston Kevin, whom she placed in the care of her sister Ruby - whoraised him like her own. Virginia trusted Ruby implicitly and leaned on her forguidance, support, and advice.
As a young adult, she worked at CityRestaurant and The Hobby Horse Racetrack where she grew in popularity as abeautiful and charismatic waitress. In the 80s she co-ran a very successful andpopular bar and restaurant and in her later years she owned and managed a shopat the straw market.
Virginiaenjoyed traveling and dining and she had an eye for fashion and wore it well.She loved dressing up and she frowned upon wearing the same outfit twice. Shehad a boisterous and infectious laugh that could fill a room and much like hergrandmother, Mar-Sue, she had a thing for funerals and could cry at the drop ofa cue. Virginia was a beautiful and compassionate soul who lived a blessedlife, filled with lots of love and laughter. She had a passion for life and wasloved and supported by her family, especially by her devoted son, Kevin, wholovingly cared for her until her passing on February 7th,2022.
