A TIME TO BE BORN

The angels in Heaven applauded on the beautiful day of April 15, 1944, to see the arrival of a promising bud born to the parentage of Charles & Marianna Evans (both deceased). She was indeed a precious gift from God that entered the world and was christened “Sybil Evans”.

A TIME TO LEARN

Sybil began her early education in Nassau and was relocated to Hartswell, Exuma to attend the Rolle Town All-Age School where she successfully completed her education. During this time, Sybil was taught by her mother and grandparents how to cook and care for the home, as every young lady was taught to do.

A TIME TO WORK

Sybil always had a passion for being self-sufficient, which led her to exercising her entrepreneurial skills. Throughout her adult years, she was self-employed as a Fish and Fruit Vendor at the vendor’s market located on Potter’s Cay Dock. She remained self-employed until 2008, when she relocated to Nicholl’s Town, Andros, to spend time raising and rearing her grandchildren.

A TIME TO LOVE

Like many young women, Sybil dreamed of one day becoming a mother and building a family of her own. Her aspirations became a reality as she was blessed with six children who filled her life with joy and purpose. She had six children, four sons – Basil, Elon (who sadly predeceased her), Anthony (also deceased) and Marvin, and two daughters – Charmaine and Chiquita, who all played a special role in her journey as a mother.

A TIME TO EMBRACE

Sybil was a fun and loving person, who possessed a humble spirit. Her generosity towards others left an indelible impression upon everyone she encountered. She would take the little that she had to help others. Sybil’s family was always her top priority. She would instantly set everything aside whenever they needed her support, doing whatever she could to help. She ensured her family, especially her deeply cherished grandchildren, were always well cared for.

Sybil was also a fierce protector of her family, always standing up to ensure they were never taken advantage of. Growing up, she safeguarded her siblings, and anyone who dared to try and bully them quickly learned they would have to answer to her. Sybil was a devoted member and the Matriarch of the Sanctuary of The Holy Spirit Church in Nicholl’s Town, Andros. She faithfully attended Prayer Meetings and Bible Study weekly.

A TIME TO DIE

During her later years, Sybil faced common health issues including hypertension and diabetes. Despite these struggles, she learned to manage them, remained dedicated to serving her God and caring for her family.

On Monday, December 16, 2024, Sybil traveled to Nassau to be with her extended family and lay her niece, Deborah to rest. However, two days after her arrival, Sybil fell ill and was admitted to the hospital. Her children were soon informed that her condition was critical.

On Wednesday, December 25, 2024, Sybil’s health took a sudden turn for the worse. The medical team worked tirelessly to stabilize her, but God had other plans. At 11:22 a.m., this beloved gem transitioned peacefully from time into eternity.
