The time to be born occurred on November 29, 1972, when Heaven delivered a bouncing baby boy to Wesley and Lucille Flowers. With thankful hearts, they named him Stephon Wesley Deon.
It became apparent even from a young age that Stephon was no ordinary child. Mild-mannered and highly intelligent with genius-like qualities, to the greater group he seemed reserved and unassuming, but to those who knew him up close, knew he was a powerful force in every sense of the word.
Stephon was raised and lived his life understanding Joshua 24:15...And if it seems evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; ....but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD. He knew whom and whose he was. Stephon grew up in Salem Union Baptist Church where he was active as a member and subsequently became leader of the Royal Ambassadors (RA) Young Men’s Club. Later in life and marriage, he became a member of Mount Carey Union Baptist Church.
Career-wise from a young child, Stephon always wanted to become a doctor. This was evident in his educational path through the sciences, at Jordan Prince Williams High School where he graduated in 1989 as Head Boy.
Upon entering university, he soon realized that his love was for the administration and application of Medicine and thus the career of a Pharmacist began. Stephon graduated from the School of Pharmacy, the University of Technology in Jamaica, and upon returning home, he trained at the Princess Margaret Hospital, worked at Prescription Parlour, and Doctors Hospital before stepping out, supported by his parents to become an Entrepreneur, creating Friendly Pharmacy Group, and later, the Progressive Pharmaceutical Distributors (wholesale company).
Stephon served the Bahamas Pharmaceutical Association (BPA) and spent much of his professional life actively involved in this body. He served as Vice-President from 2004-2005 and was a member of the Legislative Review committee that created the 2009 Pharmacy Act of the Bahamas. This was the first comprehensive overhaul of pharmacy laws in the Bahamas since 1962. He later became an Area Vice-President in 2008, and President-Elect in2010.
As President, he led in planning and hosting the historic 2013 Joint Caribbean Association of Pharmacists/Commonwealth Pharmaceutical Association (CAP/CPA) Conference at the Atlantis Resort, Paradise Island, The Bahamas.
Stephon Flowers lived a life of service and involvement that was evident in his calling as a pharmacist. His wisdom, experience, loyalty, and generosity were traits that were actively exhibited to all he came into contact with.
Stephon prioritized time for love and family even though he was entrenched in his career and businesses. In 2012 he joined in Holy Matrimony, with the love of his life, his beloved belle, Andrea Woodside. Psalms 127:3 Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from Him, was his portion and blessing to have Racquel, Deon, Dylan, Danae, and Devin. Stephon lived out Proverbs 20:7 The just man walketh in his integrity: His children are blessed after him. This is a testament of the faithfulness of a Father’s Love to his children.
Stephon was a consummate family man, his drive to be successful was rooted in the belief that a man takes care of his family. Stephon was not only a financial provider, but a “fun” provider through creating memories traveling abroad experiencing different cultures and the many game days and nights hosted right at home. A visioneer in his own right, Stephon instilled in his children that they too can dream and become whomever they want.
Well-loved by his immediate and wider family unit, “Stephy” as he was affectionately called, stayed closely connected even as business and his personal family grew. He understood the power of the village in raising the children and although his earthly presence is gone, the village will continue supporting the legacy of his family as he would expect.
It was unforeseen to receive the fateful call on Sunday, September 12, 2021, that told us that you left earth.
Stephon, we rely on the hope that absent from the body, is present with your Lord and Saviour. You not only dreamed that you could, but you did, and while you may not have lived to see it complete here on earth, we will not let your legacy die.
In life we loved you dearly, in death, we love you still. In our hearts, you hold a place no one else will ever fill. Sleep on until we meet again.
