His Entrance: Vaughn Lydell Wood was born in Nassau, Bahamas to the parentage of SherryNewbold and Kimble Wood. He grew up in Hatchet Bay, Eleuthera under the love, admirationand christian guidance of hisgrandmother (late Auralee Newbold) and great grand aunts (lateMamie Dean and Kathleen Johnson). This strong bond yielded an exceptional child who waswell mannered. smart, witty and God fearing.His Early Life: As a young man he grew up in the community of Hatchet Bay. Vaughn attendedSt. Stephen‘s Baptist Church and was a member of the youth group – Sunshine Band. Heparticipated in the church’s Christmas and Easter programmes through recitals, singing anddrama. He was also a member of the Boys Brigade and a member of the All Eleuthera Band,which he showed case his musical talent as trumpeter.Education: His early education began at P.A. Gibson Primary School in Hatchet Bay Eleuthera.He graduated with honors in June 1993. He received his secondary education at Governor’sHarbour High School (Eleuthera) graduating with honors in June 1996. He received theprestigious award as Head Boy during his tenure there. Vaughn was an excellent Grill Master. Heenhanced his cooking skill by enrolling in gourmet cooking and baking courses at SenergyBahamas Career and Technical Education Centre. He was adventurous with food and enjoyedcooking.Working life: Vaughn enlisted in the Royal Bahamas Police Force on October 7th, 1997,providing a dedicated service as a Law Enforcement Officer for a period of 23 years He served invarious divisions in Nassau – Southwestern, Northeastern and Central Divisions. He also servedin Crooked Island, Andros and Exuma Division. His last attachment was at the Magistrate CourtPolice Division, He was promoted to the rank of Corporal in 2006 and Sargeant in 2014. Underthe umbrella of the Police Staff Association, he provided security services to private businessestablishments e.g.JBR Building Supplies, Tops Lumbar & Plumbing, Commonwealth Bank,Bargain City, Meat Mart, Harding Food Store. He was known to be very courteous, humble, andalways greeting everyone with a smile as he exercised his duties.Their Union: Vaughn fell in love, courted, and later married Samantha Rolle on May 6th, 2006.This union was blessed with two beautiful children. Vaughn loved his family and was veryprotective of them. He ensured that his family travelled to his roots every year for Bay Feast inHatchet Bay, Eleuthera. He coordinated activities to celebrate birthdays, wedding anniversariesand recently Mothers’ Day.His Exit: On August 29th, 2021. Vaughn was taken to Princess Margaret Hospital suffering froman acute illness. While at hospital he was ministered to by a loving physician, Dr. Culmer whonot only provided medical services but spiritual guidance. He accepted Jesus as lord. Psalm 23rdstates “yea though I walk through the valley and the shadow of death. I would fear no evil, forthou art with me, thy rod and staff they comfort me” He was called home to glory on August 31st2021at 7 pm. We loved him but Jesus loved him best.
