SamuelMartin was born on 30th May 1944 in Wemyss Bight Eleuthera toBeatrice Ash and Samuel Martin.
A TIME TO LEARN
As a child, Samuel attended theWemyss Bight All Age School. He was an avid reader and spent much of his timeexpanding his knowledge on various subject matters.
A TIME TO WORK
After relocating to New Providence, Samuel worked for several years on the MailBoat and traveled to just about every island in The Bahamas. In search of a more stable and secure life,he decided to seek employment as a painter at the Ministry of Education.Shortly thereafter, he transferred to the Ministry of Public Works andTransport, where he advanced to the position of Supervisor. After 32 years ofdedicated service to the Ministry, he retired in May 2009.
A TIME TO LOVE
Samuel met the loveof his life, Magdalene Stubbs in 1983, and married her six months later. Theirunion was a prophecy fulfilled. Magdalene fondly remembers an encounter with aprophet, who vividly and accurately described the very man that she wouldmarry. On June 21st 1984, in the presence of their loved ones,Samuel and Magdalene joined in holy matrimony at The Englerston Gospel Chapelin New Providence.
A TIME TO WORSHIP
Shortly after getting married, Samueljoined the United Christian Church, Lincoln Boulevard. Fulfilling his desire toserve in the church, he served in many capacities, namely; Usher, member of thecathedral choir, Sunday school teacher, was ordained as an Elder, Deacon andlater a Reverend. While serving, Reverend Martin received many accoladesincluding Father of the Year and multiple awards of appreciation.
A TIME OF ILLNESS
Samuel’s illness began in June 2021as an ear problem which later progressed to digestive issues. His health further declined in May of 2022when he experienced gastric issues which was diagnosed as an ulcer. Uponfurther deterioration of his health, diagnostic studies found a largeesophageal tumor that prevented him from eating and drinking. He had two surgical procedures done to aid ineating but was still plagued with the gastric ulcer. During this time, he wasvery well taken care of by his loving wife and grandchildren Jamaal and Aliciawho dutifully tended to his every need.
A TIME TO DIE
What was to be a doctor’s appointmentbecame an appointment to a higher calling. Samuel transitioned to his eternalhome while attending doctor with his granddaughter Alicia on 13thDecember, 2022.
Samuel was a loving, kind andgenerous soul to his family as well as all that he came in contact with. He always maintained a pleasant dispositionand a welcoming spirit. May his soul rest in peace.
