On January 29th, 1968, Brenton Trevor CorneliusCharlton was born to Winston Vincent Cornelius Charlton (deceased) and FrancisFrancetta Loius Darling in Nassau, Bahamas. He was the second of five childrenborn in that union.
Brenton completed his elementary school years at StephenDillet Primary School, his Junior education at C.H Reeves Junior High Schooland his Senior education at Government High School.
After successfullygraduating, he joined the Royal Bahamas Police Force on January 9th1985. He was affectionately called “Charlie”. Brenton was a loyal and dedicatedPolice Officer, who was deployed to work in numerous divisional stations, suchas Southwestern Division, Southern Division, Central Division, Traffic Divisionand the Security Intelligence Branch Commissioners Office. He was personallyselected to serve on the security detail for the former Governor General, SirOrville Turnquest. He faithfully served his country for 35 years beforeretiring at the rank of Corporal. Brenton also worked as a mortician at EastSunrise Mortuary early in years.
He was a reliable, dedicated, ambitious, talented, lovingand reserved. Brenton embodied an unique balance between sternness, humor andplayfulness. Brenton and his siblings assisted their father by preparing aclassroom for Sunday Service at the Jordan Prince Williams Baptist School (thiswas the official site of Zion South Beach Baptist Church on Zion Boulevard).Brenton later worshipped at the Zion Baptist Church, East & ShirleyStreets.
Brenton loved being in the kitchen because he enjoyed theart of cooking. He was a self-taught chef, and if you ever had the pleasure oftasting his delicious cuisine, you would agree that he had a special gift. Hisambition with the support of his wife Raphaleta Gladys Brown-Charlton, led himto open the Breanna’s Takeaway Restaurant which was located in the Grove.Brenton had a special relationship wife his father, the late Winston VincentCornelius Charlton. Brenton often shared his fond memories of his time with hisfather. In 1978, his father married Brenton’s step-mother, Ruth MenetteHepburn-Charlton. There were four siblings in this union.
He was diligent and reliable in his older brother role. Hedrove his younger siblings to and from school. He would visit his father andstep-mother’s house most weekends with his first born son, Brenton Charlton Jr.For laughs with the “Old Man”, his claimed term of endearment and sometimes toeat Sunday dinner.
He was a devoted husband and father, an exceptional son andbrother and an exemplary first responder. He held the oldest brother title withgrace and dedication.
A most memorable chapter in his life was on November 3rd2012 when he married his wife, Raphaleta Gladys Brown, a beautiful lady. Thisunion was blessed with one daughter.
On Friday 22nd September, Brenton really felt illand told his brother to call the ambulance. Within a few hours Brenton slippedaway peacefully with a smile on his face.
