Onthe peaceful island of Eleuthera, in the settlement of James Cistern abeautiful baby was born on November 27, 1949. His parents Eustace and Lula Johnson were overjoyed and named him PaulRaymond Johnson.
Hewas the third eldest son and their pride and joy. Paul was a mamas boy and wasspoiled by his mother. He was alsohumble he didn't bother people, he just stayed to himself.
Heattended James Cistern Primary All Age School on Eleuthera, and enjoyedfishing, he would boldly fish in his settlement despite his brothersencouragement to explore fishing sites outside of James Cistern.
Oncehe completed his education he relocated to Nassau. His love for cars pushed himin the field of auto mechanics. He started his first job at Bay Street Garage.He worked at a few other places before he decided to open a mechanic shop onJennie Street where he was hardworking and continued to craft his techniques.His specialty was dealing with transmissions.
Paulmet and married Glendina and this union produced four children and sixgrandchildren.
Pabloas he was affectionately called was carefree. He travelled all over the worldto play in golf tournaments receiving numerous awards and trophies. He was alsoone of the best players in the Bahamas. His love for sports also allowed him toplay softball for local teams such as Public Works and Paradise Island. Andbaseball for One Hundred Pipers and Bahamas Blenders. His nickname was “lefty”as he was known to pitch with his left hand. Out of all of them golf took firstplace. He would spend hours at the golf course. His love and passion for golfremained a big part of his life.
Eventhough Paul was fit and always exercising he was experiencing health issues andnever told anyone. It came as a shock that he was taken to the hospitalcomplaining of chest pains the night of February 22nd around 10:45by ambulance. February 23rd at 10:51 am he called his eldestdaughter telling her he was in the hospital and to make sure lock up his jeepand gate. He died a few hours later at 2:15 pm. He will be missed.
