Evangelist Norah Gwendoline Worrell was born on May 15, 1925, to the late Winifred Cox and
Gilbert Ashby in Christ Church, Barbados. She was preceded in death by her sister, the late
Thelma C. Knight and brother, the late Mozart Ashby
aka
“Durant.”
She attended Christ Church Girl’s School in Barbados. She became a seamstress. She went to
Trinidad at the age of 12 for ten months and returned to Barbados.
She accepted the Lord on March 6, 1946, at Pilgrim Holiness Church in Maxwell Hill, Christ
Church, Barbados. She was a Sunday School teacher, youth leader and preached the gospel from
time to time.
She was married on November 28, 1946, to the late Cleveland Ingram.
After her husband died, she left Barbados on June 17, 1961; traveled to Jamaica, and settled in
Nassau on June 18, 1961.
She attended the Church of God of Prophecy, Freetown, Nassau Bahamas. She was a missionary
teaching in the Dorcas Club, a mission department in the church. She received her evangelistic
ministerial license under the leadership of Bishop Alvin S. Moss. She remained active in
evangelistic work throughout her life.
She later remarried the late Horace Nathaniel Worrell on July 11, 1973. The couple moved to
Freeport, Bahamas, before returning to Nassau in 1975. She became a widow again when Mr.
Worrell died in the early 1990’s.
She was a seamstress, as well as an upholsterist.
She enjoyed studying and acquired her BJC (Bahamas Junior Certificate) in Spanish and
Mathematics and GCE (General Certificate of Education) in English, and other Bible Training
Institute certifications.
Minister Worrell loved to sing and always sang prior to preaching or testifying in her local
church. Her favorite song was, “His Eye Is On The Sparrow.” Other favorite songs she enjoyed
singing were “Jesus Keep Me Near The Cross,” “I’m Glad I Counted The Cost,” “I Feel Like
Traveling On,” “Does Jesus Care,” “Haven of Rest,” “He Touched Me,” and “Victory Is Mine.”
As a leader, she enjoyed being around the youth of the church and would always seek to direct
them spiritually. Indeed, she was a student of the Word of God. She never missed Bible study
and Sunday school.
Minister Worrell enjoyed Couples ministry. Wherever the couples went it was a pleasure to have
her there. She was explicit when she spoke to couples on how to keep and take care of their
spouses.
Her favorite hobby was preaching the gospel from the Bible and hosting street meetings
wherever she went. She was a faithful and dedicated evangelist and was serious about winning
souls for Christ. In addition to serving in the Bahamas, she was a missionary to Barbados,
Jamaica, St. Lucia, St. Vincent, Trinidad and Tobago, Dominica, England, and various states in
the Continental USA.
She loved cooking and frying conch fritters. She cooked her special recipe wherever she visited.
One time when she travelled to the General Assembly of the Church of God of Prophecy with
her local church, she got permission from the hotel manager to fry conch fritters from her room.
She also liked travelling and exploring new places. In Louisville, Kentucky, she took a bus tour
all over the town all by herself. We were all so worried about where she was. When we returned
from church service, she was right there. She told us that she went on the bus, told the driver to
drive, just drive and take her back to the hotel in the evening. What a woman!
Her favorite desert food was vanilla ice-cream.
She loved to work on her own house doing carpentry and painting.
Minister Worrell loved laughter, and enjoyed a long life of 96 years and will be sadly missed by
all.
She leaves to cherish her memories; her beloved sister, Gloria G. Bell (The Late Thomas Bell) of
London England.
