It was the Christmasseason, when a beautiful baby girl was born to Hazel McDonald and given thename Millicent. ‘Millie’, as she was affectionately known, was later adopted bythe late James and Effie (nee Sunders) Curtis of Mount Thompson, Exuma, where shewas brought up with much love and the importance of learning Godly principals. From a very young age, Millie was active in church, having attended the MountHermon Union Baptist Church and engaging in educational activities at the MountThompson All Age School.
Throughout the years,Millie came to Nassau many times with her adopted mother, where they visitedtheir extended family. She eventually decided to make Nassau her home and latermet the love of her life, Oliver Lynes, whom she joined in Holy Matrimony.
Millie loved celebratingher birthday and would dress up and put her ‘princess’ tiara on her head toshow everyone that she saw herself as royalty. She worked for many years at theannual Christmas Carnival and it was a common thing to see Millie in a ticketbooth, explaining to patrons about the different rides offered and the variousprices. She loved working at the Carnival and looked forward to it coming totown with each passing year. It was during this time that she met and forgedfriendships with individuals for other countries, especially those from theUnited States.
Everyone who had thepleasure of knowing Millie, knew about the love and pride she had for her twinsons James and John and was overjoyed to be blessed with grandchildren. Sheloved her family and treasured the bond she had with a small group of specialfriends. Although quiet at most times, she would not hesitate to speak out ifshe felt a certain situation was unfair to others.
Millie was loved by allbecause of her meekness and willingness to help as much people as she could. Inthe latter years of her life, she was determined to serve God. Despite the manychallenges she faced, Millie knew that a relationship with the ‘True and LivingGod’ was best for her and participated in many church events, crusades andmissionary services as a walk closer with Him. There is no doubt that Millie issafely in the living arms of Christ Jesus. She trusted Him completely with herlife and always encouraged others to do the same.
