A TIME TO BE BORN
Joy filled the hearts of the lateGilbert and Doris Fox as they welcomed their first child, a beautiful babygirl, who they named Majorie Lagloria Fox, into the world on January 16, 1940,in Sandy Point, Abaco, Bahamas.
A TIME TO LEARN, MATURE & WORK
As a young child, Majorie attendedSandy Point All Age School, only completing 8th grade before leavingto care for her younger siblings at home.
At 22, Majorie moved to Nassau insearch of employment, living with her grandmother, Phiora Fox (deceased).
An industrious woman, Majorie excelled as aseamstress, gaining a reputation for her perfectly tailored clothing. She madeschool uniforms and other garments at home, which allowed her to care for herfamily, while at the same time earning an income. She was also employed brieflyas a cashier at a bookstore, and as a shelf assistant at City Market Foodstore. During her early years, she also babysat many of her nieces, nephews, and godchildren.
A TIME TO LOVE & LIVE
In1962, her heart overflowed with love when she met the charming Elkanah Andrews, who swept her off her feet. On April 29, 1963, they were united in holymatrimony. Their union was blessed with seven children: five daughters, SherylAndrews, Nurse Dale Andrews-Smith, Genean McFall, Dedrie Andrews and the lateJana Cash, as well as two sons, Jeremy and Barron Andrews.
A TIME TO WORSHIP
Untilshe could no longer leave her home, Majorie enjoyed attending church servicesand mid-week prayer with her sister Beaulah at Christ the King Anglican Church, where she was a member for over sixty-two years.
A TIME OF ILLNESS
Inher later years, especially the last eight, Majorie faced several medical challenges, including dementia, hypertension, and other conditions, which eventuallyconfined her to bed.
During this time, her children Geneanand Barron arranged for a full-time caregiver, Ms. Pauline Allen, who cared forher, like she would her very own mother, until her passing. Her grandson,Maxamus, also moved in and assisted as needed.
On weekends or when Pauline was off,Genean and Barron alternated providing care, sometimes with additional helpfrom Lisa Bain, Nurse Shonell Bowleg, Pat’s Senior Home, and Dr. Chendi Storr of Renew Senior In-Home Care. Periodically, Majorie’sdaughter Sheryl, and sisters, Beaulah and Melonie, along with her remainingchildren also provided care and support when and wherever possible.
Her grandson, Dr. Justin McFall, whenvisiting from the USA during his residency, made it a priority, as soon as hearrived, to visit with her and offer additional care. Other medical consultantsincluded Dr. Smith and Nurse Colebrooke of the Flemming Street Clinic, Dr.Renaldo Scavella, and her grandnephew, Dr. Timothy Providence, whom she babysatwhen he was a child.
A TIME TO DIE
OnSaturday, July 6, 2024, Majorie’s blood pressure and oxygen levels dropped, prompting an ambulance call. Although her vitals improved temporarily, her conditionworsened, leading to another ambulance call on Tuesday night, July 9, 2024. Asshe lived, Majorie peacefully transitioned from this life on Wednesday, July10, 2024, at 5am at Princess Margaret Hospital.
