On the beautiful day of March 3rd 1932 on the Island of New Providence, glory came down and filled the hearts of the late Leonard and Ethel North Smith. She was christened Marjorie Ellen the second of nine children. She was christened at St. Francis Cathedral and was a regular member there. She received her early education at Western Senior and worked in the domestic field in her earlier years. In 1959, she retired and went on to be a housewife and caregiver. Mammy, as she was affectionately called by her children, loved people and would usually be seen watching her morning shows. She was very humble and loving and she possessed a never-ending love. Every morning, Mammy would say Thank God for Life and when you would her how she was doing she would normally reply with right here hipping and hopping but her constant fight with illnesses never dampened her spirit.

She was married to Norman Joseph Baker in 1960 and (he predeceased her on 27th of September 1985) from that union they produced eight beautiful children. She was predeceased by three children: Anthony Darville, Valerie Culmer and Denise Baker-Smith.
