Doris Marina Gibson, the youngest daughter of the late HenryHubert McKinney (Harry) and the late Adella Louise McKinney, was born in theSettlement of Landrail Point in Crooked Island, The Bahamas, on January 06,1936. She received her education at the All-Age School in Landrail Point,Crooked Island. After completing her schooling, she opened her own business asa cook and was assisted by her sister and a cousin.
At a young age, she fell in love with Wilfred Gibson andthey got married in 1953. To this union, six wonderful children were born:Lester, Cora, Andrew, Wilhemena,Wentwood and Elwood. She adopted Tom Hanna, and in addition became a mother tocountless individuals.
In 2010 she became ill. Later in 2013 she fell and broke herhip and had to be flown to Nassau, where she was admitted to the PrincessMargaret Hospital. After she had recuperated, she returned to Crooked Islandand was cared for by her children. However, she continued to struggle withvarious illnesses and a year later in 2014, was airlifted to the United Statesof America by her cousin Don Moss. Unfortunately, this time her right leg was amputated. Afterbeing discharged, she was welcomed into the home of close friends, Bob and Rona Allen. She laterreturned to Landrail Point and was lovingly cared for by her children. In 2021,tragedy struck again as she had her left leg amputated at the Wake Forest BaptistHospital in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
A few weeks following her 86th birthday (January6), she fell asleep in Jesus on Monday January 31, 2022 and now awaits thefirst resurrection of her Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ.
She is pre-deceased by her brother: Willis McKinney Sr.
