Laurent Marichal Smith

20th August 2022

On August 26th, 1965 a beautiful baby boy was born to Olson and Beulah Smith. He was the third child of this union. He received his formal education at Jordan Prince William Baptist School.

He joined the Royal Bahamas Defense Force on July 2nd 1984, New Entry 15, there he attained the rank of Able Seaman.

He was later employed with The Bahamas Electricity Corporation (BEC) now known as Bahamas Power and Light (BPL) where he remained until his retirement and served his country well. He was raised in the Bamboo Town Community surrounded by the Fernanders, Rolles, Thurstons, Currys, Adderleys and Dorsette Families. He found lifelong friendships with Conrad Fernander and Glen Williams.

On August 8th, 1995 He was joined in Holy Matrimony Joethel Smith nee Hamilton and this union produced (3) three beautiful children, one daughter and two sons. His children were his life and he provided for them unselfishly and one of his proudest moments was seeing his last child Marcai Smith (also known as his pension baby) graduated from St. Anne’s Anglican School Class of 2022. His civic involvement included membership Lodge St. Anne’s No. 1751, he also donated to numerous charitable organizations.

Laurent’s health begin to challenge him in 1999 and he continue to experience challenges over the years until the Lord called him home he went peacefully on Saturday August 20th, 2022 surrounded by his wife and two of his children.
