ATime to be Born
The celebration of Christmas and BoxingDay public holidays had passed but the birth of a baby was still expected. TheLord had decided that this birth would be a gift for the first day of the NewYear. And so it was on January 1, 1992, that a handsome, vibrant, baby boy wasborn to the proud parentage of Jestina Wallace and Dewitt Butler (deceased). They named and christened him, Larenzo Dewitt Butler.
ATime to be Blessed
Affectionately called “Renny,” Larenzowas quiet and an observant young man. His upbringing was a Godly one as duringhis early childhood, he was always in church with his grandmother, VernitaButler (deceased). He never questioned why he, his siblings and cousins had togo to church so much. They knew when Grammy said it was time for church, everybody had to be marching out the door. So, every Sunday, at 9:30 a.m., theButler clan graced the door of Shaw Temple A.M.E. Zion Church and there theyremained until “Mother Butler” had completed her duties even after service wasfinished. This exemplary spiritual upbringing and its impact would be thecatalyst and strong foundation on which the man, Larenzo, became.
His Grammy not only mentored himspiritually, but she also fostered the importance of physical cleanliness. Thiswas especially exemplified in Renny’s dressing. When he stepped out, he did soin style and knowing that he was looking good, he would comment, “NORMAL,” or“Ya Boy all fresh up.”
Another attribute nurtured in Renny’supbringing was that of good manners. He never disrespected his elders or hispeers and he would never “jump” into a conversation unless he was invited to doso. Those who knew him well described him as smart, loving, funny, caring, andalways with his family’s best interest at heart. His loyalty was unquestionable.
ATime to Learn
Renny received his early education atAunt Jenny’s Preschool. He attended Gerald Cash and Carmichael Primary Schoolsand progressed to S.C. McPherson Junior High School. He graduated from C.V.Bethel Senior High School in the year, 2010
ATime to Work
After completing high school, Rennylanded his first job as a Pump Attendant at Esso On the Run, South Beach. Hedid not settle there because he knew he was capable of much more. Rennydescribed himself as being “Jack of All Trades,” and so it was he ventured intothe field of construction and was employed at SMG Construction. He was alsoemployed at Cruiz Car Rentals, Novah Flight Services and Federal Express(Fedex). Renny also dabbled in auto mechanics and was always a lifelong, willing student, learning all that he could about any and everything, many ofwhich he excelled at.
Renny was passionate about many thingsbut his passion for motor bikes inspired him the most. He loved motor bikes andwould often take them apart, learn their intricate secrets, and put themtogether again. He loved the mechanism of these motor bikes and much more thanthat, he loved riding them. The smile on his face painted a picture of his joywhen riding.
ATime to Die
Friday, June 4, 2021, began as anynormal day in Renny’s life. It was a public holiday, Sir Randal Fawkes LabourDay, and as the day progressed, he, like so many others, was enjoying the day. However, the day would not pass without Renny doing what he loved; riding amotorbike. Little did he or anyone else realize, that day would be his lastride.
Larenzo went for a “holiday ride” andwas involved in a vehicular accident which claimed his life. Unaware of God’splan, only Renny heard and answered the clarion call on that fateful day.
