On an early wet May morning, there wasa downpour of blessings coming from the sky above. On this rainy day, May 20,1996, Natasha Moss and Ronald McCartney welcomed a handsome, joyful, loving, energetic and full of life baby boy into this world. They were more than happyto give him the name James Ronald Eugene McCartney. He would be better known tomost as “Rj”. He was christened at St. Agnes Anglican Church.
From an early age he was affectionately closeto his mother who stayed home to nurture him. Throughout the years he became amama's boy. Also as a child growing up he would spend time with his father’sfamily: Grammy Maxine, Pa, Great Grand Daddy, Aunty Millie, Aunt Ena, UncleRudy, Shenique, Shantel and Petula. They all loved him unconditionally. Rj wasalways loving, playful and mischievous. He would do daring and unimaginablethings.
At the tender age of 4 he attendedJordon Prince William Baptist School. He then did a bit of home schooling andthen attended and completed his education at Westminster College in 2014. Itwas at Westminster he discovered his passion for basketball and he played onthe junior and senior basketball team. On the court he was known as “ BigNasty”. He was big but he was fast and had skills.
Rj was not fearful of anything. He wasreliable and dependable and could call on him to do anything. It was always ayes, never a no. He was always mannerly, respectful, loving, happy and Godfearing.
He was a very protective, dependable anddutiful brother to his sisters and cousin Lakia. His father had bought him afour-wheeler and he loved taking his sisters for rides throughout theneighborhood in Coral Lakes. When his father and mother separated he became theman of the house.
It was a joy for Rj to spend time withhis family. He was especially excited to spend this summer with his nieceDestiny whom he referred to as his “main lady”. In his last years living withhis Grandmother Agnes whom he affectionately called “oldie” . She alwaysensured Rj had his late night snacks when he got home from work. Rj and hisuncle Lavado had a close bond. He could always depend on Rj. He said that Rjwas just different. He also had a very special relationship with Lavado’schildren, especially the younger ones who loved being around him.
To his friends who were like hisbrothers: He was the “Realist”: He was the peacemaker: He was the glue. He wasthe true definition of a loyal friend.
He was gainfully employed at SolomonFresh Market, CMC Baha Mar, Coco Plum Restaurant. Presently employed atwildflower DMC and JMAC security service alongside his father. James Ronald“RJ” McCartney will truly be missed. Heaven has truly gained an angel. Takeyour rest RJ. We all love you but God loves you and knows best. Rj you havegained your wings.
