On June 17, 1994, the community of Golden Gates was giftedwith a handsome baby boy born to Horatio Higgs & Bonnie Collie. They wouldname him Horatio Higgs Jr.
Shortly after his release from hospital, his auntKeshlia, named him “Duncas” because of his physique and stature.
Horatio’s early education began at Alphabet Academy; aneighboring preschool, after which he attended Carlton E Francis Primary School.His high school years were spent at C.V Bethel High School before transitioningto Cherub Christian Academy (Joan Rolle) where he successfully completed.
Being a determined young man filled with talents heembraced his first opportunity of employment with Shell Gas Station, Blue HillRoad. This job opportunity empowered him to begin saving. After which hepurchased his first vehicle, a Honda Civic. Horatio’s customer service skills acceleratedhim to greater job opportunity to which he accepted and began immediate employmentwith T.L.D.C (Transformation Landscape Development Company). He spent a totalof 8 years with the company where he learnt the art of nurturing plants and itssurroundings. As a result, he became skilled in all aspects of landscaping andwould share his knowledge with others. Being so passionate and determined birthedhis entrepreneurial capabilities that eventually allowed him to purchase atruck for the purpose of Landscaping. He became the neighborhood landscaperembracing every opportunity provided to care for his neighbors & customers’lawn which lasted until his demise.
He further excelled his talents and was able to gain additionalemployment where he became apart of the Bahamar Team. However, the excitementand love he had for plants was incomparable to that for motorbikes. This made hima highlight for his neighborhood.
It was said that during his spare time, Horatio andhis cousin Kelton took every opportunity to ride and care for their bikes. Thislove was birthed from the early stages of being a toddler and made the pairinseparable. It is without doubt that their love for motorbikes made them therising stars of Sunshine Park. Horatio’sradiant smile, kind gestures and love for all things bright and beautiful willbe remembered by all. A neighborhood “boy” simply gone too soon.
