Gwendolyn Higgs-Taylor was born in New Providence on November 25, 1930, as
the first of two (2) children to the late Blanche Higgs, nee Baker formerly of
Harbour Island, Bahamas.
After Blanche settled in New Providence and following the death of Mr. Higgs,
Gwendolyn, Cleveland (her brother) and their mother were a close knit family.
The three (3) Baker sisters Miriam, Blanche and Florence were also close knit with
the other members of their extended family which included nephews, nieces and
grandchildren.
Gwendolyn was married to the late Richard Taylor and employed at the Nassau
Public Library until her retirement.
She was a devoted Catholic and attended St. Francis Xavier Cathedral every
Sunday until she was incapacitated.
Gwendolyn was a quiet person and was known for her love of desserts. She settled
early in life on Fowler Street off Market Street where she developed close bonds
with Mrs. King & family of Fowler Street, the late Ms. May & family of Market
Street and Ms. Rose of Gibbs Corner until she was relocated to the Naomi Christie
Home for the Aged in 2018.
On April 10, 2021, she was admitted to the Princess Margaret Hospital.
Gwendolyn made for sunset on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at six (6) in the morning
at the age of ninety (90).
She survived by a host of relatives and friends including her cousins:
Edward & Caroline McKenzie and family, Leroy Samuels Jr., Fulton Samuels,
Cheryl Samuels and Charlene Samuels.
Mrs. King and family, the Fowler Street family, The Staff of the Naomi Christie
Home for the Aged, The Staff of the Nassau Public Library, The Members of the
St. Francis Xavier Cathedral and The Staff of the Princess Margaret Hospital
Female Medical Ward.
