A time to born
On June 6th, 1946, a beautiful baby girl was born to the proudparentage of Cyril Augustus Walkes Sr. and Maudeline Walkes (both deceased) onthe island of New Providence. They gave their daughter the name, Gloria YvonneWalkes.
She had two children Noralee and Nickelle.
Gloria was always humble and quiet in nature. She often told herchildren and grandchildren that her father said ‘He had never once seen hermad’.
She began her early education at Southern Junior, then latermoving onward to Southern Senior (now Columbus Primary).
In 1969 Gloria became a member of the the Royal Bahamas PoliceForce for a short time. After which she joined the National Insurance Boardwhere she retired after some forty years of diligent service.
During her retirement years, Gloria was led to devout herself toCalvary Deliverance Christian Academy, where she worked as a preschool teacherfor a few years. She often took humor in the joys she experienced while workingwith the children. There she developed many lasting relationships withcolleagues, parents and students, some of who visited her even after herdeparture from the school.
Gloria was an active member of the Calvary Deliverance ChurchFamily. There she served as a faithful member of the usher board for manyyears. Gloria loved her Bishops, James Newry and V. G. Clarke, and her churchfamily. She enjoyed times of fellowship and social gatherings with the usherboard family. But most of all she loved the Lord. Gloria trusted the Lordgreatly and placed every situation in his hands. She believed in the power ofprayer!
