A Time to Be Born:
On the 29th of June 1961 a baby boy was born to theproud parents of Gerald and Jenniemae Stubbs, and they named him EricChristopher Stubbs. “Eric” meaningexplorer and “Christopher”, a legendary Christian martyr. His mother always maintained that her baby boywas special and being the second child and also a son, she then had her pigeonpair which she had asked God to grant her. He was her prince and he was her baby.
A Time to BeEducated:
“Ricky” as he was affectionately called attended UriahMcPhee Primary School and L W Young Secondary High School where he madenumerous friends because of his likeable and charismatic persona. Eric was intelligent, he had greatcommunication skills and he was able to achieve the tasks set for him atsecondary high school level.
A Time for CharacterBuilding:
Ricky was well mannered, humorous and an energetic young manwith an infectious laughter. He was humbleand kind, and this made him well loved by the community where he was raised byhis maternal grandparents who were also pastors. As a child many days he would be seenparticipating in revivals and religious street meetings with his grandparents.
A Time to Work:
Ricky joined the working force at an early age inHospitality, then Security. He worked inGrand Bahama at Ruby Swuisse and at the Holiday Inn, Paradise Island. He was well loved by his coworkers eventhough he was very young.
Changing Scenes ofLife:
Because Ricky was very trusting, inexperienced andimpressionable during his mid teen years, he made poor choices of friends andwas subsequently introduced to alcohol, drugs and the fast life, which led to amotor bike accident resulting in a head injury. Following this accident and the continuous usage of drugs, he wasadmitted to Sandilands Rehabilitation Centre(SRC) on several occasions fortreatment.
Eric developed a mental condition due to the head injury andthe miss use of drugs, which eventually led him to being arrested and incarceratedfor the past thirty-seven (37) years. During his time at SRC he maintained thathe was innocent. He wrote numerous letters to the Governor General to bereleased, but he was not granted approval for his release until early2022.
Eric fought for his rights for the last two (2) years of hislife. He was determined that by hissixty first birthday he did not want to be in SRC.
Ricky celebrated his sixty first birthday this year June asif he knew it would be his last. He was happy, he was loved, and most of all hewas FREE.
