OnJanuary 17th, 1942 a baby boy was born to the late Irvin Charles andEloise Sands. The second boy born into this union, Edgar as he was known, was afixture in the Kemp Road Community. He attended the Eastern Jr. and Eastern Sr.schools and was a member of the St. Margaret’s Church as a young man. As hematured into manhood he married and this union produced his only daughterSamantha.
Uponreaching the age of matriculation from formal education Edgar sought trainingfrom Mr. North (an Englishman) in the electrical field. After sometime he wasgranted employment at the Geoffrey Jones Electric Company; here he worked sideby side with his older brother Thomas Sands Sr. (deceased). It was his work inthe electrical field that was to become his life-long passion and occupation, afterfurther sharpening his skills at Geoffrey Jones Electric Company he left tojoin Roy West as their maintenance person and in house Electrician. Shortlythereafter he again joined his brother Thomas; working for Thomas’, ThomasSands Electric. Edgar was sought after for his high level of skill,dependability, and trustworthiness and he worked at many private homes onParadise Island, Cable Beach, and Lyford Cay. In addition to homes he alsoworked for large hotel properties most notably the Grand Central Hotel. Even in his post retirement years he continuedto take on small electrical repair jobs to keep his skills sharp.
Edgarwas ever the social butterfly and loved to meet and chat with whomsoever hecame into contact with. He would frequent the Palmdale location of McDonaldswhere he and other breakfast regularswould discuss the issues of the day. He also enjoyed travelling to new andexciting places; he would often recount the stories of places travelled andadventures he had while on these brief respites from his dailyresponsibilities.
Duringthe latter part of 2020 his health started to decline and he was diagnosed withDementia. As his condition progressively worsened it became apparent that 24hour care was necessary to maintain Edgar’s well-being. As a result Edgar wasadmitted to the Pat’s Senior Citizens Home on June 20th, 2021. OnJuly 10th 2021 Edgar was admitted to the Princess Margaret Hospitalfor complications with his Dementia and on August 7th, 2021 hepassed away at the age of 79.
