Donathan Cox Sr.

16th November 2021

Onthe tranquil island of Acklins in the settlement of Snug Corner on the October19th 1943 a handsome baby boy was born to the late ViolaCox-Duncombe and Leon H. Cox; he was given the name Donathon Harcourt Cox.

Hisearly childhood years was spent with his maternal family as he grew up with hisaunt Ms. Halcema Cox and later coming to live with his father at the tender ageof nine(9).

Thefamily migrated to New Providence where he was natured in a home whereChristian value were the order of the day. At an early age he was taught theimportance of hard work, which remained with his throughout his life. He oftenspoke fondly of being a baby sitter and protector of his younger siblings.

Asa young man Don as he was affectionately called, migrated to the United Stateswhere he lived in Chicago for short while, when he came home he convinced hissister Eartha to move to Grand Bahama with the promise of a better life, aftera few years there they decided to return home.

Manymemories were made as he spent his years being the comedian of the family, hislate brother Layton’s home being the gathering spot in those days.

Donworked in various areas until he found his passion, he loved driving theJitney, which he spend about 47 years in the Industry. During his many years inthe field he met persons of all walks of life thus giving him many wonderfulmoments of assisting and being a friend to many.

Dongrew up in the fear and admiration of the Lord, making Englerston Church hisplace of worship, where he received Christ as his personal Lord and Saviorunder the pastoral care of his late father Bishop Leon. H. Cox.

InFebruary he become suddenly ill and was diagnosed with prostate cancer in Juneof this year. There was times when he was in pain but he never complained, hemaintained his independence almost to the end.

OnNovember 16th, 2021, moments before his daughter Shaniqua’s visit heanswered the call of his creator and quietly slipped away from the cares andtrails of this life and was granted his peaceful rest.

Leftto cherish his beautiful memories are his Son:Donathon Jr.; Daughters: DarlesiaCox-Ferguson and Sheniqua Cox; Grandchildren:Dawn-ya Cox, Kai, Kyle and Kaylee Ferguson; Son in-law: Kendrick Ferguson; Adoptedchildren: Eileen Edwards, Philippa and Julian Robinson, Shantell Strachan,Lacricia, Rogjette, and Erin Swain, Chiquita Rolle (care giver) and their families;Siblings: Garnet (Joyce) Ferguson, EricCox, Eartha (Allan) Pyfrom, Nathalie Duncombe, Idamae (Wilbert) Lewis andGeorge Henfield;  Numerous Nieces and Nephews: Julius,Stephanie, Darrel (Caroline), Omar, Winslownette, Layton, Sophia, Laytonia,Eldon, Alice, Cleo, Altamese, Shanrisha, Vanessa (Dax), Erica, Vernal (Janis),Leon, Lenwood, Margarita, Miriam, Agnes, Kim, Desmond, Genel, Tiffany, Starsky,Rzepka (Mildred), Renishca, Renika, Vincent, Peggy, Jeremy and the children ofWilbert Lewis; Numerous Grand and GreatGrand Nieces and Nephews: Uncle and Aunts: Bishop Brice and Advira Thompsonand family, Evalyn Moss and family; NumerousCousins including but not limited to: The Cox’s, Ferguson’s, Kemp’s andHanna Families; And a host of otherrelatives and friends including: The McDonald Family, Bishop Franklyn andRowena Ferguson, Bishop Ghaly and Min. Angela Swann and the Englerston COGOPFamily, Bishop Rudolph and Mother Veronica Bowe and Family, Joan Cox, GregoryWilson Sr., Pastor Donald and Clara Dorsett and family, Pastor Drexel Gibsonand family, Pastor Tim Johnson and Family, The Coverley Family, The Bulter,Lafleur, Henfield, Hall, Curtis, Rigby, Maycock, Missick, and StrachanFamilies.
