In Loving Memory of

Dario Antonio "Fatboy" D-Boy" McPhee

10th April 2023

November, theproclaimed month of thanksgiving, was a joyous one when the news came thatOralee had given birth to a beautiful, strong and healthy, 7 ½ lb. baby boy.Being extremely thankful for the wonderful blessing that the Lord had bestowed uponher, Oralee chose to give her son the name, Dario Antonio. The Greek meaningfor Dario is “rich” and “royalty”, both of which are blessings that Oraleeprayed and wished for her precious gift from the Lord.

As a toddler,Dario was “a solid lil’ fella”, and thus, he was affectionately given thenickname, ‘Fatboy’. He spent his early years living on Penny Bank Lane, wherehe was literally surrounded by a quintessential “village”, from his dear AuntEthel (deceased), numerous cousins, and ‘Mama’, the next-door neighbor, all ofwhom loved him dearly.

He received hisearly education at Claridge Primary and C.H. Reeves Junior High, and in 2005,he successfully graduated from R.M. Bailey High School. Even as a child, Dariocould best be described as inquisitive, fearless, industrious and proud. Additionally, because he was the last child, Dario was also ‘the apple of hismommy’s eyes’, as there was literally nothing that she would not do for him.

Still, Dario wasalways industrious, and in 2009 he, and his brother Drameco, decided to opentheir own business, a car wash in Nassau Village. The business started out verywell, and quickly became successful, due, not in small part, to the dedication, time and impeccable service given to each client and his/her vehicle. Thebrothers prided themselves on their thriving business, and Dario, inparticular, would always flash a big smile while watching yet another shiny“ride” leave the wash.

In 2010, Dariodeveloped an intense love of the sea; this is when he ventured into jet-skirental. You see, he was happiest when on the water, and his magnetic personalityand love of the sea was almost contagious, so much so that the tourists whopatronized his jet-ski rentals were always guaranteed to have not just a ride, but rather a thrilling and memorable adventure, when on his jet-ski. Dario wasalso gifted with his hands, and would often be found tinkering with car, bikeand boat engines. Eventually however, Dario retired from jet-ski rentals, andtransitioned into his real passion…boating. He was utterly fascinated by thesea, and would often traverse through the Bahama Islands, fishing and givingsmall tours to locals and tourists alike. Dario would often visit his mother’sbirthplace, Georgetown, Exuma, where he had developed many lasting friendships. He would often be seen kidding with his Aunt Sheila or catching up with hissome of his beloved cousins, especially Carlos & Oliva.

You might thinkthat given all of the various joys and loves that Dario already had in hislife, nothing else could make him happier, or more content. However, you wouldbe wrong. For, in spite of all the fullness that Dario’s life seemed tocontain, the events that would forever change his life, and make it even more meaningful, were the births of his beautiful children, Davonne in 2010, and Dariel, aka‘Mama’ in 2012. His proudest moments and greatest joys occurred while he waswith his children. In Dario’s view, his most important job, or what he wouldcall his true calling in life, was to be a good and present father to hischildren. In fact, his entire face lit up with happiness whenever he spoke to,and spent time, with his kids. He was a devoted and loving father, who alwaysmade sure his kids were provided for. He thoroughly enjoyed spending time withthem, whether it was carrying them on boating and fishing trips, lunch anddinner dates, holiday, and birthday outings. Even the seemingly simple act ofjust playing games with them filled him with pure happiness. Furthermore, duringhis adult life, Dario developed a warm and loving relationship with his fatherBradford and his siblings. It seemed as if they were making up for lost time,as he would often visit their homes and even take them on boat rides. The truthis that to know Dario was to love him, and if you were one of his people, andhe was in your corner, he would always look out for you, and always have yourback. Dario was a people person who endeared himself to many persons he met. Hewas completely loyal to his few true friends, and he lived by the mantra thatif he had, they had. Friends of his, like Ryan, Ricky and DeNicio can relaycountless stories of Dario’s seemingly endless generosity. However, hisgenerosity did not only include those close to him, as he assisted many youngmen in the Nassau Village community with food and clothing, and also donatedfunds to the Unity House and the Ranfurly Home for Children, in his continuedefforts to help those who were less fortunate.

In 2018, Dario metLatoya at a deli and actively pursued her. He would visit her workplace everyother day, and secretly send her flowers…just to wear her down. It worked. Shefinally agreed to go on a date with him. She simply could not resist his huge heartand genuine thoughtfulness. In addition, his suave good looks and moves, andthat sincere smile of his, were a huge plus as well. The couple took countlesstrips together, travelling throughout the Caribbean. While Dario taught her hislove for boating, she tried to encourage him to expand his boating venture andelevate his business even further. Like all couples, they had their issues fromtime to time; however, due to their immense love, they always found their wayback to each other.

On the night ofSunday, April 9th, 2023, Easter Sunday, Dario and his mother stayedup late, talking until the wee hours of the morning. He had made plans to carryLaToya and the kids beaching and boating, and was looking forward to it.However, on Monday, April 10th, 2023, Easter Monday, tragedy hitafter Dario went out on his boat and returned to land, where he was unmercifullygunned down. We are not claiming that Dario was a saint, as only one perfectman walked this earth, and that was Jesus Christ. However, Dario fiercelyloved, and was loved by his family and friends. He lived a life, where hisprimary focus was his dedication to helping out his loved ones, and any othersthat he saw were in need. We need more people in this world, who selflesslygive of themselves, and do their best to uplift others. Dario Antonio my dear, you will truly be missed.
