A Time To BeBorn…
Our belovedbrother, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend, Bernard Holbert Smith was bornon May 13th, 1947 in Nassau, Bahamas. “Peggs” as he wasaffectionately called from a young age was a sharp dresser with a laugh andsmoothness that attracted people to him. Peggs was calm, congenial, and afriend to all.
A Time toLearn & Work
He attendedThe Eastern Junior and Senior Schools where he graduated. After graduating he soughtemployment at The Montaque Beach Hotel and later at the Nassau Beach Hotelwhich were the premier hotels at that time. This is where he became one of thebest Bartenders on the island and happily remained in this profession until heretired.
Family Time…
Bernard lovedand cared for his family, especially his mother whom he cared for effortlesslyuntil the very end. He was indeed the “Girlsthem sugar” and let’s be honest he loved the ladies. Hislove for family grew as he fathered eight children of his own and three adoptedchildren.
Peggs alsoknown as “Mr. Dress Up” grew up in church and loved attending funerals and reminiscingon the different songs and sermons he enjoyed. He was a people’s person andloved chatting with them.
His LastMoments…
His healthstarted to decline after a stroke which left him partially paralyzed on oneside and deteriorated over time. Since 2021, Peggs has been in and out of the hospitalwhere we all visited him and made him comfortable. The doctors suggestedamputation of his leg but he asked for two weeks to make a decision and becauseof his continued health issues that never happened.
The prayersand visits from his church family, the neighbors Gwen Kerr, Mary Thompson &special friend Eleanor Hepburn, his best friend Kelly, and brother-in-law Roberthelped to sustain him through that very difficult time. His family also playeda tremendous role. Cynthia would cook his meals and sit with him, Warren wouldcare for him while he was home, Sonya helped dress his legs, Shirley who tookcare of him while I was out of town, Joy, Aunt Char nagged him over WhatsApp.
We the familyfind comfort in knowing that Bernard is at peace now, he has fought a goodfight and is resting in the arms of his good Lord.
Rest in awell-deserved peace Bernard Holbert Smith Sr. and may God bless your soul.
“I havefought a good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown ofrighteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on thatDay, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.” 2 Timothy 4:6-8
