His Life:
Anthony graced the world with his presence on November 3rd, 1959to the late Basil Winder and Oria Francis, on the beautiful Berry island. Hewas the third eldest of his siblings. He liked to tease his older brotherBertram saying "horn horn horn in your head" and he did not like itbut it was brotherly love. He cared for his family and they looked out for eachother. Anthony attended R. N. Gomez All Age for his primary school years and hetraveled to Andros to complete his high school education at the North AndrosHigh school. He enjoyed spending summers on Great Sturrup Cay with his uncleGeorge. After the successful completion of high school, he ventured into thecarpentry field under the supervision of his deceased uncle John Winder. Thispropelled Anthony into family life and entrepreneurship.
" He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favorfrom the Lord '' Proverbs 18:22. This is true because Anthony found his amazingwife Lorna and they were married on March 5th, 1983 and were blessed with fourawesome children. Over the years, they worked together to build businesses thathave become staples in the community such as A& L Grocery, Anthony's Hardwareand construction as well as apartments. "MR. EARLY BIRD " as he wasaffectionately called by his late aunt Pleasant, would get up at 6am in his navy blue dickiesand he would enjoy a cup of tea while gazing at the sky before he headed out tothe Construction site. He had a Godgiven talent that allowed him to construct his home, businesses and contributeto the structural development of his community. He not only provided and sustained his family but he actively workedthrough the Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) and with Local Government to ensurethe island's needs were met. If you knewMr. Winder you are well informed of his many talents and his high intelligence.He would watch the news, read the newspaper, explore the internet, fish, cookand bake just to name a few. He made some of the best conch salad, stew &boil fish and the island's famous potato bread.
In November, 2018 Anthonybecame ill and was hospitalized for a few days. Shortly thereafter he wasdiagnosed with colon cancer, he got a few chemo treatments but declined tocontinue. In 2021 the cancer progressed, he began to lose weight rapidly andbecame immobile. In October, 2022 he hada minor surgery and stayed in New providence for a few weeks. He was hospitalized again briefly in earlyDecember and this would be his last trip to New providence. After the Christmasholidays December 2022 the doctor told Anthony and his wife that they could notdo anything else for him and that it was only a matter of time before hisdeath. Lorna made him as comfortable aspossible and honored his number of requests but unfortunately on April 11th,2023 at 7:44am Anthony Joseph Winder was called home to the Lord. All of hispain and suffering on this earth was over!
