AlthemeiseIngraham-Johnson known as Maltese or Bertha was born on the island of MatthewTown, Inagua on September 10, 1949 to Ernest Ingraham (deceased) and GwendolynSwain (deceased).
Althemeisereceived her early education at Mayguana All Age School. After graduating she movedto Nassau where she worked as a cashier at Centreville Bakery then moving toIngrahama’s Auto.
Herthirst for higher education saw her enrolling in what was known as night schoolto advance herself academically.
Shewent into teaching and served many years up to retirement at Ministry ofEducation teaching Art and Craft which was a passion.
Althemeiseknew the struggles of single motherhood as she was the mother of two children –Elaine and Zedes. At an early age she also knew the pain of losing a child withthe death of her firstborn Zedes at the age 4.
Althemeisemet her first husband in 1969 while working at Centreville Bakery and they hadthree sons: Richard, Kranston and Nicholas. After the two divorced Althemeise metand married Albert Johnson. They were together until his death in 2001.
Althemeisewas a devoted Catholic and a member of St Cecilias Senior Choir. She sang theAlto and was ever present at mass and rehearsals. Singing was a second love.
Asher mobility deteriorated she became a member of Disabled PersonsOrganization and The Bahamas Alliance for the Blind and visually impaired. Shealso donated her talents to Abilities Unlimited and assisted the organizationin creating crafts to assist the organization n raising funds.
OnJuly 9th, 2023 Althemeise was admitted to Princess Margaret Hospitaland transitioned peacefully to her Heavenly home on July 10th, 2023.
