His Arrival
On March 15th , 1962, on the beautiful island of New Providence, a bouncing baby boy was born to the late Bishop Elias and Mable Ferguson. He was the first of eight born to their union, and they proudly named him Allance James Ferguson.
“Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself.” John Dewey. With his boldness, humor and zest for life, Allance made his presence felt wherever he went. He began his scholastic journey at the Yellow Elder Primary School on the island of New Providence, and thereafter attended St. Matthew’s Parish Junior High School. He completed his Senior High School education at the then A.F. Adderley Senior High School, receiving his High School Diploma in 1979.
Growing up as the son of a Pastor, Allance spent much of his time learning about God and participating in church services and events within the Church of God of Prophecy— which included singing in the church choir. He enjoyed singing. Throughout this time, he was always jubilant, outgoing and enthusiastic about meeting and engaging with new people. Indeed, he was amiable at school, within the neighborhood he grew up in, and in the church. His family and friends alike attest, that every encounter with Allance was a memorable one.
“The best preparation for good work tomorrow is to do good work today” Elbert Hubbart After graduating High School, Allance was full of life and eager to start his journey into manhood. His friendly demeanor, passion for meeting new people, and gift of persuasion were well suited for his career path. Similar to his father, he began this journey in retail and concluded in hospitality, gracing the halls of several prominent establishments along the way. More specifically, he began his work life at SuperValue grocery store, before progressing to them Insurance industry where he spent time under the employment of both Star Insurance and Family Guardian.
Subsequently, Allance transitioned to the tourism industry, where his zest and love for engaging with people were put to good use. He worked at the Atlantis Resort for a few years before moving on to be a taxi driver at the four Seasons Taxi Service and he spent the remainder of his career at Odyssey Aviation, where he worked faithfully and diligently as chauffer.
“And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
(1 Corinthians 13:13)
Allance was fortunate to have found love on several occasions, and was blessed with four industrious children—two beautiful daughters and two sons.
He loved his family fiercely, and he showed this love in his own, special way. Each morning his aunts and extended family could look forward to his routine morning greetings, which was his way of checking in to let them know that he was well, and to ensure that they were as well.
“The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.” (Proverbs 16:9).
On 20 th December 2023, while enjoying the company of friends at one of his favorite spots, Allance started to feel unwell; and his friends proceeded to call emergency services where he was later transported to Doctor’s Hospital for further medical assistance.
Allance’s family was informed that he had suffered a massive stroke and needed surgery. After 6 hours long of surgery, Allance’s life would no longer be the same. His illness left him with frequent admissions to the hospital, but his family remained in faith, trusting God for his healing.
On 19th December, Allance was admitted into Princess Margaret hospital for the final time and on the 20th December 2024, he quietly slipped from time to eternity.
