Announcement/Obituary: HIS ENTRANCE A love child was born to Frances and Peter Saunders (pre-deceased) of Dunmore Town, Harbour Island, at the Princess Margaret Hospital on the 16th day of February, 1958. He was given the name Kevin Francis Saunders but was fondly called Kay and later Tiger by close friends. He was the last of six (6) children and a premature birth. HIS LIFE S JOURNEY Elder Saunders had an eventful life. He received his early education at the All Aged Public School of Harbour Island. At age sixteen, he traveled to Nassau where he resided with his sister; and enrolled in the Bahamas Technical and Vocational College where he pursued a course in Welding for two (2) years. Kevin also enrolled at the Bahamas Hotel Training College from 1976 to 1978 where he did his Apprentice Cook course. After becoming a chef, he demonstrated his cooking skills at the Britannia Beach Hotel (now Coral Towers) at Paradise Island; and the Cafe Martinique Restaurant. His last place of employment was at the Wyndham Nassau Resort in the Banquet Kitchen as a Head Chef. Kevin loved cooking and experimenting with the many ways that food could be prepared. He received numerous awards including, Teamwork in 1997 and Employee of the Month in December, 2009. HIS FAMILY LIFE Elder Saunders enjoyed strong family ties which celebrated significant events, and the Christmas dinners were his treasure. There was always something in the bag for everyone. He loved seeing the smiles on our faces. The birthday phone calls were a testament of a prayer and blessing. I thank God for our brother. The Lord blessed Elder Saunders with four beautiful children, (one has predeceased him), whom he loved dearly. He endeavoured to bring them up in the nurture and admonition of God, despite the many lassitudes of life. HIS FAITH Elder Saunders faith journey began at the age of five (5) years when he was baptized at St. John s Anglican Church, Harbour Island. He later worshipped at the Methodist Church with his mother. Elder Saunders was inspired by the translated King James Version 1611 and became an avid reader of the word. He was excited about the revelation of His Lord which motivated him to seek further into the history of the MAN of the Kingdom of God. He was introduced to the Ethiopian Orthodox Church at the age of 25 years and recorded numerous journals. Elder Saunders urge for fulfilling God s call on his life directed him to the Adventist faith during a crusade meeting at the park at Pinewood Gardens in 2003. Soon thereafter, he was baptized by Evangelist Peter Joseph and was immediately chosen to serve as a Deacon. He went on to be ordained as Senior Deacon and leader of the Deacon s Board. Kevin was actively in-volved in establishing a firm foundation for his faith and underwent professional training and development. He received a certificate for the church building project at Real Harvest on 31st August 2003. Kevin started a prayer group in 2004 and faithfully prayed for the sick and shut-ins. He also visited the hospital and the homes of members of the church to pray with them. In 2006, he was ordained as an Elder in the church. As an Elder, Kevin preached occasionally on Sabbath, Wednesday and Sunday mornings. Kevin was also actively involved in The Men s Fellowship and the Choir which he loved dearly. In the summer of 2007 he received a level two certificate in Evangelism and Discipleship, and graduated as class Chaplin. He completed a core course at the International Institute of Christian Ministries in the sum-mer of 2008. On the 14th January, 2012 Elder Saunders achieved the certification of Deacon at the Real Harvest Seventh-Day Adventist Church. He went on to attain the recognition of Elder from the South Bahamas Conference Ministerial Association of Seventh-Day Adventist Church on the 8th September, 2013. HIS JOURNEY OF DEPARTURE Elder Saunders health was challenged by numerous chronic issues, which slowly deteriorated his mobility. He tarried believing that God shall supply all of his needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. Elder Saunders earthly journey ended with his untimely demise on Thursday, 20th November, 2014, at his residence situated, No 17 Buttonwood Street, Pinewood Gardens. God has spoken, let the church say Amen!
