Announcement/Obituary: Lydia Glen Tynes was born August 2nd 1934, in Pompey Bay, Acklins to Roland Tynes and Sarah Bowe Tynes. She was baptized at St. Aidians Church in Pompey Bay, Acklins Church in Pompey Bay, Acklins. She was the only child to that union. She was the apple of her parents eyes; they called her Baby. She attended the Pompey Bay, All Aged School. After completing the required age for learning School, she left home in 1951 to come to Nassau for more studies. She attended the Dundas School where she studied housekeeping. However, she never worked in that profession. Later she went to Mrs. Owen s School of Embroidery and design. She loved that profession; after being qualified she moved onto Mademoiselle where she was able to show her skills. After Mademoiselle she found employment with Seafloor Aquarium. Upon their closure, she then entered the seafood business until retirement. In the early sixties she met and fell in love with Shervin Lightbourne. She got married shortly after they met. They had one son, Trevor. Lydia was a shy child and from an early age she was taught by her parents the importance of praying, reading her bible and attending Church. She became a believer in Jesus Christ as a child, when Brother Philip Canner and his wife, Sister Eunice visited Pompey Bay as Missionaries from the United States to preach and teach the Gospel of Jesus Christ in the early 40 s. She was a praying woman and a daily bible reader. Lydia attended Bible Truth Hall with her mother, Sarah Tynes after they came to Nassau. They were faithful members. She loved to attend bible study at Bro. Raymond Albury s residence. She said Bro. Raymond always answered her questions. Every Wednesday she waited for Shelly and Dug to pick her up to take her to Bible class. Mrs. Delores whom she called D picked her up every Sunday morning. If D was unable, then Ms. Willamae would come. Lydia loved her family; she was a dedicated, caring daughter, niece for her Uncle Harold, mother and grandmother. She valued her family greatly and made great sacrifices for her son, Trevor and grandchildren. She made sure they completed High School especially, her two granddaughters, Janine (Angel) and Leslie. She was happy when Janine married. She asked the Lord to spear her life to see her grandchildren graduated from high school. The Lord answered her prayers. Lydia loved to get involved in community work. She loved the urban renewal and was treasurer until she died. She loved going on rides, luncheons, visits to Government House, parties and Church Services. The last service she attended was at St. Barnabas Church. Lydia was an FNM by heart. She loved her party and served as officer in the party and also campaigned with Zhivargo Laing in the Fort Charlotte Constituency and in the last election with Felton Cox in the St. Cecelia Constituency. In recent years Lydia suffered from several illnesses however, she never complained about her afflictions. When some days was too rough for her, she said, I trust God for my healing. On August 7th she travelled to Charlotte, North Carolina to attend the Hanna, Heastie & Tynes reunion which was held by her cousin, Marilyn Gool. She enjoyed herself very much but missed the picnic; however, she enjoyed visiting the Billy Graham Museum. On August 14th 2014, she was not feeling well and was admitted to hospital later that night and remained in hospital for 10 days. She was discharged and was in the care of her loving cousins, Pastor Robyn & Minister Marilyn Gool who provided their home and care giver. She requested that her son, Trevor would come to visit her. We waited for her full recovery but fate had it that she was readmitted to the hospital. Her health deteriorated and on September 2nd 2014, Lydia quietly took her last breadth and bid this old world goodbye and exchange time for eternity.
