Announcement/Obituary: A TIME TO BE BORN In the Baintown Constituency of over da hill Nassau, a baby girl was born to proud parents Jack and Evelyn Rahming on the 1st day in December, 1935, making it their 4th child. They named her Maria Louise Rahming. A TIME TO LIVE AND LEARN Maria was educated at St. Joseph s Catholic School along with her other siblings. Many evenings after school, Maria would sit with her mom and Aunt Lou opening raffia and stripping stalks which were later used to decorate and plait the many straw baskets which were later sold at the Straw Market. This trade was passed on to her children who assisted her as they grew older. Mom later decided to seek gainful employment in the hotel industry where she worked as a maid and space cleaner in various hotels including Royal Victoria Hotel, the then Sheraton and Britannia Hotels on Paradise Island. All of her work colleagues called her Farri or Miss Veese. Mom loved baking bread, rolls and coconut tart. Her home was the place to go for something to eat, especially on the weekends where she would put out a table and sell her bread, rolls and coconut tart along with fried fish, chicken and macaroni and cheese. Her neighbours and everyone who purchased her goods called her Mother. Whatever she had, anyone who needed it was welcomed to it whether they could pay or not. Whatever was grown in her yard she freely shared, especially her pears and coconuts. Mom was seen on numerous occasions taking pears and a loaf of bread and tart with her to give to her special doctors at PMH or wherever she went. A TIME FOR LOVE Mom met the love of her life, Frank Farrington, whom she later married. This union was blessed with ten children, five of whom has predeceased her. A TIME TO DIE Over the past two years mom was admitted to the hospital on numerous occasions as she had a heart condition. In January 2014, due to poor circulation in her blood vessels, mom had to have her left leg amputated. She cherished the times spend with her family even though she was confined to a wheel chair. In early August mom suffered a stroke and was admitted to the hospital. A few days later she suffered further heart complications and remained hospitalized until her demise. Mom quietly slipped away from this life at 1:25a.m. on Monday 25th August. 2014. May her soul rest in peace.
