Announcement/Obituary: It was in the early morning of Wednesday 10th June 1960 that we were informed that there were two babies instead of one borne to Cecil Alexander and Lelah Deloris Cunningham. The twin boys were born prematurely, set in an incubator and given the Christian names: Lloyd Wendal and Floyd Kendal. Floyd was born five minutes after Lloyd at 2.5 lbs, a half pound lighter than his twin. As a result of the babies remaining in the hospital for several weeks in the incubator, they were allowed to be bathed in cod liver oil only until the age of six (6) months. Floyd was later christened at the Church of God of Prophecy - East Street Tabernacle by Bishop Alvin S. Moss (Colonial Overseer). As the twin boys grew, although identical twins, they began to develop their own personalities. At the age of four (4) years old, Floyd received his first musical instrument, the recorder, which he went on to master. Eventually, he played the box guitar, the electrical bass guitar, clarinet and trumpet. All of these instruments were used to play in the Church of God of Prophecy to the honour and glory of God. Floyd and his twin, Lloyd were one of the first boys to have a duet on their guitars in the church, at (C.O.G.O.P.) East Street Tabernacle. Floyd was also an original member of the Junior Band of the Church of God of Prophecy East Street Tabernacle when the band was first organized. He continued his love for music by accompanying the band regularly on performances to District Conventions on the Family Island. He was also an active member of the musical group Divine Liberations. Floyd had a thirst for knowledge which led him to become a perpetual student as was dubbed The Philosopher in the family. Floyd began his early education as Sands Primary School which was situated on Shirley Street. From there he went to Timothy Gibson Primary School and later received a scholarship to attend the old Government High School. He excelled in his studies and after completion went to College of the Bahamas where he obtained two (2) degrees: an Associate s of Science degree in Biology and an Associate s of Art degree in Accounting. His further education includes successful attendance and completion at the Dalhousie University (Nova Scotia, Canada) - Bachelor s of Science degree in Biology; Oral Roberts University (Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA) - Bachelor s of Science degree in Accounting; Norfolk State University (Norfolk, Virginia, USA) - Bachelor s of Science degree in Computer Science; Florida International University (Miami, Florida, USA) - Master of Science in Tax Accounting; McFatter Technical Institute (Davie, Florida, USA) - Tax Accounting Certification. Floyd worked for the Bahamas Government and Balfour Beatty Construction Co. Ltd. before he seized the opportunity to go to the United States to live. While in the United States, he worked extensively for the State Department as an Accountant with the Internal Revenue Service. Floyd had numerous hobbies which included photography, cooking, swimming, playing the trumpet and guitar, collecting coins and stamps and earning a Black belt 1st degree in Tae Kwon Do. Floyd enjoyed life; he loved to travel and he loved good food! But nothing was more important than his love for God. This was evident in the many discussions and debates he had with family and friends about the things of God. He was a plethora of knowledge and was always right. Although Floyd was ill, he never complained so no one knew the extent of his condition; because he did not want his family to worry about him. Floyd had made plans to return home to the Bahamas for good - later this year (2014). He often talked about his desire to make an investment on Crooked Island (namely on the Farquharson family s plantation). He made detailed plans and was working feverishly to make the dreams a reality. However, this was not to be, as he slipped away in his sleep and entered eternity to be with his Lord and Saviour. He will be missed dearly, but his memories will be etched and celebrated in the hearts of: His Father: Cecil Sidney Cunningham; Mother: Minister Lelah Cunningham; Twin brother: Lloyd; Sisters: Launa Williams, Kayla, Therena and Laticia Cunningham. Aunts: VerdieMae Farquharson-Kriz, Joanna Miller, Yvonne and Annette Farquharson and Alice Cooper (Hollywood, Florida, USA). Uncles: Valentine and Glenville Farquharson, Anthony Kriz and Willard Miller Sr. Brother-in-Law: Lynden Williams. Nephews and Nieces: Orison, Sean, Shaneil, Shannon and Oriska. God-children: Mileah and Marlyna Patton. Cousins: Annmarie, Raquel, Willard Jr., Noel, Valentine Jr., Trevor, Glennette, Gavan, Jomar, Marlon, Everett, Cynthia, Meryl, Dale, Madeline, Carnetta, Ruth, Naomi, Lindeo and Oswald. Special Friends: Gary Cooper, Patricia Farrington, Leah Williams-Patton, Craig Forbes, Berdie and Miriam Curtis, Eleanor Williams and Sgt. Michelle Farrington; and a host of other relatives and friends.
